Former world number 12 Borna Coric beat in-form Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets on Wednesday as his promising form in Hamburg continues. The current world number 183 is making the long journey back to the top of the sport after a year out through shoulder surgery and after overcoming a top clay-courter, Laslo Djere, on Monday he has achieved back-to-back victories for the first time since early 2021. That will feel significant to the 25-year-old, who claimed his first ATP title on clay at the Marrakech Open back in 2017, and he should be even better against world number 48 Alex Molcan on Friday. 24-year-old Molcan is a tough foe, though, with an ever-improving game that saw him oust the fourth seed Pablo Carreno Busta in three sets on Wednesday. The Slovak has already reached a final this season on clay, finishing runner-up to Cam Norrie at the Lyon Open, and he plays the role of underdog well. Coric’s full abilities remain a mystery right now but back him to claim at least a set here and leave the winner up to chance.
