World number 22 Alex de Minaur ousted Dusan Lajovic in straight sets on Monday for a solid start to the Italian Open. The 23-year-old is a solid all-courter with pace to burn on clay and that has served him well recently with the likes of top 10-level players Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner required to beat him in Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid, respectively. The Aussie has match points against eventual Barcelona champion Alcaraz last month and he recently beat Tommy Paul in straight sets at Indian Wells in March in their only previous meeting. World number 34 Paul is an excellent player on clay and he beat specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas in two on Monday for an impressive start to his campaign.
