World number 30 Alex de Minaur came back from a set down for the second round running to beat Ilya Ivashka on Saturday, backing solid results over Adrian Mannarino and James Duckworth. The 23-year-old owns five ATP titles at ATP 250 level, including from Atlanta back in 2019, and that experience could well be the difference in this first meeting with world number 43 Jenson Brooksby who has so far lost both of his finals on tour. The 21-year-old has endured the tougher route to the final, though, taking out record-holding champion John Isner in three sets and then Frances Tiafoe in two on Saturday. Brooksby will be well-backed by the home crowd desperate to see their new young talent emerge and with three sets likely here, given De Minaur’s recent matches, taking the American to win at least a set looks the sensible way to lean in this likely thriller.
