THE PREDICTION
World number 30 Alex de Minaur will play his first match on tour since reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon earlier this month. The 23-year-old put in some huge performances at SW19 but capitulated against Cristian Garin in the round of 16, losing from match points at two sets up to the Chilean, and that perhaps soft underbelly is what is keeping the Aussie from staying inside the world’s top 20 at present. Fellow Aussie James Duckworth beat Dominik Koepfer in three sets on Tuesday and he enjoyed a decent run to the quarter-finals of the Hall of Fame Open last time out before defeat to Jason Kubler. The 30-year-old is at his best on a hardcourt and with De Minaur coming in a little cold on the surface, having received a bye to the round of 16, this looks a real potential upset on Thursday. The shrewd move could well be taking Duckworth to snatch at least a set here, leaving the ultimate winner up to chance.
