THE PREDICTION
World number 30 Alex de Minaur beat fellow Aussie James Duckworth in straight sets on Thursday to get his Atlanta Open campaign underway. The 23-year-old won here in 2019, his second of three ATP titles, with his most recent coming in June last year at the Eastbourne International. World number 78 Adrian Mannarino has played 10 finals across a long career but lost nine of them, including his first meeting with De Minaur at the 2019 Zhuhai Championships. The 34-year-old lost to Taro Daniel in qualifying but he is yet to drop a set since coming through as a lucky loser, beating Peter Gojowczyk and Andres Martin. Mannarino only recently beat De Minaur to level this head-to-head record at 1-1 but that came on his favoured grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in June and a hardcourt leans towards the Aussie. Three sets is a distinct possibility, which makes De Minaur to win at least a set the suitably cautious pick for an accumulator and to win outright a reasonable one-off.
