22-year-old Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 32nd after a stellar campaign at the Monte-Carlo Open, with victories over the likes of Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz taking him to the semi-finals of a Masters event for the first time. The Spaniard has looked his exuberant best over the course of the week with a playstyle and intensity that brings the crowd over to his course and he will feel like the favourite against Grigor Dimitrov after beating the Bulgarian in straight sets at last season’s Italian Open in similar form. Former world number three Dimitrov is not be underestimated, though, after beating two players of top 10 quality in Casper Ruud and most recently Hubert Hurkacz. The 30-year-old is a fantastic player on all surfaces when in this mood but a recent display like this was cut short at the semi-final stage of last season’s Indian Wells after so much promise.
