World number 42 Albert Ramos-Vinolas won his fourth ATP title on clay earlier this season at the Cordoba Open but he has since struggled and he takes a four-match winning streak into the Roland-Garros. The 34-year-old is the more comfortable player in these conditions but this first meeting with world number 85 Thanasi Kokkinakis could lean in the Aussie’s favour after a strong run to the Geneva Open quarter-finals this week. 26-year-old Kokkinakis beat two strong clay-courters in Fabio Fognini and Federico Delbonis in Geneva and he has impressed in parts of this season – not least winning his first ATP title at Adelaide 2 and the Australian Open Men’s Doubles title back in January. This match looks like a proper candidate for five sets and a one-off punt on that option could be fruitful. Otherwise, backing the more experience Ramos-Vinolas to win at least two sets seems reasonable, leaving the winner up to chance.
