World number 52 Albert Ramos-Vinolas received a bye to the round of 16 as a last-minute fourth seed, having been slated to play Pablo Andujar on Monday. The 34-year-old is one of the better clay-courters out there with a fourth career ATP title won on the surface this year at the Cordoba Open, in which he beat Juan Pablo Varillas at this stage. 26-year-old Varillas is yet to win a set from Ramos-Vinolas as he trails the Spaniard 0-2 in their head-to-head record but a win over Carlos Taberner on Monday is a decent one and he enjoyed a brilliant run to the quarter-finals in Gstaad last week with results over Lorenzo Sonego and Roberto Bautista Agut. However, Ramos-Vinolas went one further in Switzerland before defeat to eventual champion Casper Ruud and he is the more dependable performer at this level.
