World number 34 Maxime Cressy came back from asset down to oust a resurgent Lorenzo Sonego on Tuesday, backing-up a more assured performance over James Duckworth in the second round. The 25-year-old recently won his maiden ATP title at the Hall of Fame Open on grass, on which he finished runner-up to Taylor Fritz at the Eastbourne International back in June, but he can be just as effective on a hardcourt as he proved last season with a breakthrough victory over Pablo Carreno Busta at the US Open. World number 65 Adrian Mannarino beat in-form Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets to back-up an impressive result over Emil Ruusuvuori. The 34-year-old has the tools to out-manoeuvre Cressy here as a tricky left-hander but he too would probably prefer this second meeting takes place on his favoured grass after Cressy won their first meeting at the start of the season on a hardcourt in Sydney. Mannarino is well capable at another upset here but backing in-form Cressy to eventually come through seems reasonable here. You could consider adding at least a tiebreak with both players seeing five between their combined matches this week.
