World number 45 Adrian Mannarino claimed a surprise second ATP title last week at the Winston-Salem Open, three years on from his first at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The Frenchman saved match points in the first round against Christopher O’Connell but then did not drop another set en-route to becoming the tournament’s oldest champion at 34 years old, ousting in-form Maxime Cressy and Botic Van de Zandschulp along the way. 26-year-old Gijs Brouwer set a new career-high ATP world ranking this week after qualifying for his Grand Slam debut at the US Open. The Dutchman is Texan-born and he enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of the Houston Open back in April before defeat to eventual champion Reilly Opelka. Given Mannarino’s slow start last week and that Brouwer will be playing the most important match of his career on Tuesday, back Mannarino to win outright here instead of in three sets.
