18-year-old Emma Raducanu is visibly changing her life in front of our eyes at Wimbledon this year after two incredible results. A straight-sets victory over Vitalia Diatchenko on Wednesday was already her best result by a country mile but to back that up by beating former Roland-Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova on Thursday is simply outstanding. Raducanu’s WTA ranking is set to soar and the money she will earn this week as a teenager will exponentially improve her short-term goals in tennis but most importantly she is winning in front of adoring home crowds and that is an invaluable experience at any age.
31-year-old Sorana Cirstea can tell her all about that after the Romanian confessed to have enjoyed her best ever match on court yesterday. The world number 45 may not have been at home but she was made to feel every bit of it in a three-set epic against former world number one Victoria Azarenka on Court 1. As a result, this should be a hugely emotional match between two players who did not expect to be here and whichever court they play should be filled to capacity. This is a tough match to pick a winner from without factoring in the emotions of the day. Both players will be backed on their points but Raducanu will have the vast majority of the support in the key moments and that should see her take at least a set here. However, it could be best just to leave this one be and bask in a sporting memory we have missed for some time.
