THE PREDICTION
World number 91 James Duckworth is one of the lowest-ranked men left in the draw and provided one of the biggest shocks of the tournament when he took out seasoned grass specialist Sam Querrey on Thursday. The 29-year-old is now 9-7 on tour this season in what could prove to be his best year and he will be a proper threat to 23rd seed Lorenzo Sonego here in their first ever meeting. 26-year-old Sonego struggled throughout his second round match with Daniel Elahi Galan as the Colombian attacked him early to win the first set but ultimately the Italian came through in four.
There is no getting past James Duckworth’s defeat of Sam Querrey, although Querrey’s season up until his favoured grass swing had been dismal to say the least. The Aussie is through to the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time and that kind of momentum at his age is a powerful force to stop. There could be some hangovers from Sonego’s tight loss in the final of the Eastbourne International last Saturday to explain the Italian’s slow start to this campaign but he remains the favourite.
