THE PREDICTION
20-year-old Kaja Juvan is probably used to being the promising young talent in most of her matches but she will face a unique test here in the third round of Wimbledon. After Coco Gauff’s victory over Venus Williams here in 2019 as a 15-year-old, the teenager was immediately welcomed into the Wimbledon crowd’s hearts as one of their own and the American will be backed to the hilt here. World number 102 Juvan beat the ninth seed Belinda Bencic in an eye-catching first round upset and backed that up well against Clara Burel in two a day later. Not to be outdone, world number 23 Gauff is also yet to drop a set in two strong wins over Francesca Jones and Elena Vesnina.
20th seed Gauff will be growing in confidence with each passing round here and as other seeds continue to drop from the Women’s Singles draw she could be on a historic trajectory. Juvan has never gone beyond the third round at a major but she will be fearless in this encounter and hopefully manage the lack of support with her own positivity. This will be Gauff’s toughest match yet but given the willingness of the crowd behind her take the teenager to win straight sets here.
