THE PREDICTION
For the second Thursday running, Jelena Ostapenko beat Daria Kasatkina over three tough sets and in doing so the world number 34 announced herself as a genuine Wimbledon contender. The 2017 Roland-Garros champion won the Eastbourne International last Saturday and has blasted her way through two tough opponents so far. She will face 28-year-old Ajla Tomjlanovic who looked certain to lose to the sudden incredible form of Alize Cornet but the Aussie dug in hard to cause one of many upsets on Thursday. World number 75 Tomjlanovic is not in uncharted waters after reaching the round of 16 at Roland-Garros back in 2014 but a win here would certainly be her best result for some time.
Ostapenko was the winner in their only previous encounter earlier this season, beating Tomljanovic in straight sets at the Italian Open on clay. The 24-year-old is all power and passion and when those align as they are right now she is like playing against a very boisterous brick wall.
