THE PREDICTION
30-year-old Irina Begu’s progress so far at Wimbledon is going under the radar but the Romanian can be immensely proud of reaching the third round after a three-set battle won over the 26th seed Petra Martic on Wednesday. The world number 79 has matched her best showing at Wimbledon and can emulate her personal Grand Slam record if she reaches the round of 16. In her way, though, is 20-year-old Iga Swiatek after the seventh seed conceded just four games to Vera Zvonareva on Wednesday. The 2020 Roland-Garros champion has to be one of the favourites to lift the Wimbledon trophy this year with so many big names falling out o the draw and she is playing in the same blistering way that saw her win the Italian Open earlier this year.
The pair have never met before and Begu must not be underestimated by Swiatek after her win over Martic but this is admittedly a bit of a mis-match. World number nine Swiatek is a force of nature and she should blast through this third round in straight sets once more.
