A fascinating encounter lies in store in the men’s third round as German Dominik Koepfer faces off against Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. This already represents Koepfer’s best performance at Wimbledon and his first-round straight-sets win over Reilly Opelka showed just how dangerous he can be. His second-round win over Soon-Woo Kwon showcased another side of his game where he had to graft over five sets for the win. His play at key moments on break points especially is impressive and he has converted an impressive 12 from 20 so far in his two matches. If he can continue that kind of form at decisive moments, it will give him a chance but he will have to improve on his own serve against Bautista Agut.
The Spaniard often flies under the radar in tournaments like this but it should not be forgotten that he reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2019. He has a highly impressive record at SW19 and while he does not possess one major strength, his all-round game is extremely strong and solid. He was taken to five sets by Miomir Kecmanovic in the last round and he will rue that energy wasted after taking a two-set lead. It may be the warning sign he needs however to raise his game here and he should be capable of doing just that. It is hard to see this match being over in three sets given the skillset of both players so take both players to win a set, but safely take Bautista Agut to get the victory.
