THE PREDICTION
World number 26 Dan Evans won his second round match in straight sets in much the same fashion of his first with the Wimbledon crowds beginning to take note of the 31-year-old’s talents. The 22nd seed is through to the third round here for a third time after two performances over Feliciano Lopez and Dusan Lajovic but his next opponent will be his toughest. 20-year-old Sebastian Korda is still something of an unknown quantity as he continues to improve with every passing week. He beat the 15th seed, and Eastbourne International champion, Alex de Minaur on Tuesday in four sets and backed that up well with a straight-sets victory over qualifier Antoine Hoang a day later.
Both players claimed their first ATP titles this season at either end of their careers and this first meeting could end up one of the matches of the tournament if they meet at their best. Evans is enjoying his best year on tour and wins over Novak Djokovic, David Goffin and Felix Auger-Aliassime suggest he has enough to take down the rising star here. Korda will have to face the prospect of a partisan Centre Court or Court 1 at the least but he is well capable of winning this too. Take British number one Evans to win at least a set here as the slightest of favourites and leave a winner up to chance.
