THE PREDICTION
26-year-old Yulia Putintseva kept it short and sweet against Tsevtana Pironkova on Wednesday in her delayed first round match and she will be keen to get back on track fixture-wise with this second round match on Thursday. The Kazakh has made the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros twice and most recently the US Open last season but if there is a surface she likes least it appears to be grass. Taking her on is another clay afficionado in 30th seed Paula Badosa, who made played an entertaining three-set tussle with fellow Spaniard Aliona Bolsova on Wednesday. 23-year-old Badosa made a brilliant run to the Madrid Open semi-finals earlier this season on a hugely successful clay swing that culminated in a first WTA title at the Serbia Open.
The winner of this match is totally up for grabs in a first meeting between Yulia Putintseva and Paula Badosa. World number 33 Badosa could be the favourite on form and ranking but given her struggle to put away Bolsova yesterday this match could need three sets to separate them. Take that option here, or for Badosa to win at least a set as the likeliest of two tough opponents to come through.
