World number 66 Viktorija Golubic made the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International last week before a close defeat to Anett Kontaveit and she has taken that form straight intro Wimbledon. The Swiss came back from a set down to 29th seed Veronika Kudermetova to win a thrilling deciding set 11-9 on Tuesday morning and she will be full of confidence ahead of a first meeting with Danielle Collins.
World number 48 Collins also came back from a set down in a tough first round match against Plona Hercog but the American is by all accounts a big game player and this could be a thrilling second round tie. 27-year-old Collins reached a career-high 23rd in the WTA world rankings back in 2019 after a stunning run to the Australian Open semi-finals out of nowhere but she has yet to look her sometimes fearsome best on grass. As the better-suited to this surface and the player with excellent form coming into Wimbledon, take Golubic to win at least a set here in a potentially tight one.
