THE PREDICTION
This should be a fascinating first meeting between world number 24 Ons Jabeur and seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, who claimed her 90th win at Wimbledon on Tuesday. The 41-year-old is embarking on her 23rd campaign at SW19 and despite a strong fight-back from Mihaela Buzarnescu the five-time Wimbledon champion came through in three sets. Williams is obviously a well-loved legend of the sport but she found most of her success at this Grand Slam and it was only four years ago that she was in her last final here in 2017. Taking her on is 25-year-old Jabeur, who recently won her first ever WTA title at the Birmingham Classic two weeks ago and she made short work of Rebecca Peterson on Tuesday.
Jabeur is a powerful player who realistically should have more than just the one title to her name already but this should be a proper contest between the Tunisian’s power and Williams’ experience. Every year the American returns to justify her continuing place in the sport and she should do herself proud here in a result that ultimately falls Jabeur’s way. Take Ons Jabeur to win outright here, though she should be able to do it in two.
