THE PREDICTION
World number 85 Nao Hibino overcame a strong challenge from Bernarda Pera on Tuesday to win her first Wimbledon match since 2017 in three sets. The 26-year-old has never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam but she will be full of confidence after a rare win on the Singles tour as a more consistent doubles player. Facing her in the second round will world number 100 Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who was fortunate in a bad situation as Serena Williams was forced to retire from their first round match after a slip on the grass. The Belarusian has enjoyed some decent form on tour this season but she will know she made it through to second round on luck alone and that could spur her on here.
Hibino won their only previous meeting way back in 2015 but this match will be a fresh start in terms of the players taking to court. Sasnovich’s strange route to the second round may be a springboard for a run here at Wimbledon and she has reached the round of 16 at SW19 before now for best Grand Slam showing. Take Sasnovich to win at least a set here in a tough result to call.
