Eighth seed Karolina Pliskova will be mightily relieved to have got past in-form Tamara Zidansek in the first round via straight sets. The Czech is without doubt one of the toughest players to beat in the WTA tour when she is on song but since a double-bagel defeat in the Italian Open final by Iga Swiatek her form has been shaky at best. The 29-year-old is an excellent all-courter but her world class serving is particularly effective on the grass and if she continues in this way she could be a proper contender for the title, with free bets available upon sign-up for those looking to back the Czech star. World number 49 Donna Vekic turned 25 on Monday but had her match delayed until Tuesday morning where she emphatically beat Anastasia Potapova in straight sets too. World number 49 Vekic looked confident and motivated on Tuesday morning which is more than could be said for Karolina Pliskova coming into Wimbledon. However, a straight-set win over Zidansek, who had come in from a semi-final exit at Roland-Garros earlier this month, is an eye-catching result and one that could do the world number 10 a world of good. This should be a really classy second round match that both players could easily win. Take Pliskova to win at least a set here as the likelier to come through seeing as she has won four of five meetings with Vekic and each of the last four.
