THE PREDICTION
This looks a must-watch match on Thursday between world number 22 Karolina Muchova and number 62 Camila Giorgi with both women at their best on this surface. 24-year-old Muchova took little time to beat Shuai Zhang on Wednesday morning, much like Giorgi did in beating Jill Teichmann to reach the second round. The pair have never played each other before and both are being talked about as players capable of making a deep run here so the winner will grab plenty of attention.
Muchova famously made the quarter-finals here on her debut in 2019 and she bettered that earlier this season with a run to the Australian Open. She has lost just five matches this year and is possibly the favourite coming into this second round tie on that form. However, 29-year-old Giorgi’s deep and powerful hitting is well-suited to this surface and only an injury took her out of the Eastbourne International last week in the semi-finals. In what could well need a tough deciding set to separate them, take the 19th seed Muchova to win at least one set here.
