THE PREDICTION
20-year-old Kaja Juvan sprung a huge shock in the first round by ousting the ninth seed and in-form Belinda Bencic in straight sets. The Slovenian reached a career-high 91st in the WTA world rankings back in February and she looks set to at least match that after this campaign. Juvan made the third round of the Australian Open this season in her best showing and she has a fantastic opportunity to emulate that here when she faces qualifier Clara Burel. World number 143 Burel beat fellow qualifier Ellen Perez in comfortable straight sets on Wednesday and the she too has a third round target to beat at Grand Slams after winning her first two matches in Paris on debut last year.
Burel was the winner in their only previous encounter as part of that excellent wildcard run to the third round at Roland-Garros last season but on first round performances this could be vengeance for Juvan. Taking out Bencic is more than enough evidence to suggest that the Slovenian can win at least a set in what could be a tight second meeting here.
