THE PREDICTION
Hard-working Czech Jiri Vesely came through his first round match with Yannick Hanfmann relatively comfortably in straight sets and he will back himself here in a first meeting with Marton Fucsovics. World number 48 Fucsovics sprang an upset on Monday to beat the 19th seed Jannik Sinner in four sets, although the young Italian has looked wholly uncomfortable on grass this season. Nevertheless, Fucsovics’ performance was in keeping with his earlier form this season and the Hungarian only needs a little spark like this to get motoring.
The pair have never played a tour-level match before and with both exceptionally fit and determined this could well see four or even five sets before a winner is found. Vesely could well be the early pace-setter here but it is hard not to see a more confident Fucsovics battle hard to come through the outright winner.
