THE PREDICTION
16th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime looked assured in his first round match against Thiago Monteiro, coming through the rugged left-hander in straight sets. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a strong grass swing so far having reached the final of the Stuttgart Open and the semi-final of the Halle Open, as well as the Men’s Doubles final at Halle alongside Hubert Hurkacz. Auger-Aliassime will face another exciting youngster in 22-year-old Mikael Ymer, who beat French veteran Jo-Wilfried Tsonga over five gruelling sets on Wednesday.
World number 98 Ymer is starting to make a name for himself with wins like his first round battle with Tsonga and he put in a very similar shift at Roland-Garros when he beat Gael Monfils in the second round. This could be a stunning match between two players set to spend the next decade at the top of the game, particularly world number 19 Auger-Aliassime who is already there. Given his recent form on grass, though, Auger-Aliassime should be winning this match in straight sets. Ymer could be fatigued from his first round match yesterday but he ha splayed well enough to suggest taking FAA as the outright winner is the much safer move.
