THE PREDICTION
World number five Elina Svitolina needed three sets to oust a determined Alison Van Uytvanck on Wednesday in a badly delayed first round match and she will need to recover well to face Magda Linette. World number 44 Linette enjoyed an excellent Roland-Garros campaign in Singles and Doubles but she grabbed one of her best results of the year in beating Amanda Anisimova in the first round here. The 29-year-old came back from a set down against the powerful American and she is one round off her best showing here after reaching the third in 2019.
26-year-old Svitolina leads their head-top-head record 2-0 with both wins coming in straight sets on clay, and in France in fact, at Roland-Garros in 2017 and the Strasbourg Open last season. In London, Svitolina will do well to dial into this tournament as seeds continue to drop out of both sides of the draw. She has yet to concede a set to Magda Linette but given the Pole’s performance against a powerful opponent in Anisimova it seems a safer option just to opt for Svitolina to win outright.
