THE PREDICTION
World number 62 Dominik Koepfer is a fairly underrated player often passed off as a clay-court specialist but his straight-sets dismissal of 32nd seed Reilly Opelka on Monday is an impressive result indeed. The German took a set off Roger Federer in the round of 16 at Roland-Garros earlier this month in an entertaining match and he has beat the likes of Taylor Fritz and Milos Raonic this season under the radar. The 27-year-old will face another player outside the top 50 enjoying strong form this summer in Kwon Soon-woo, who overcame his first German opponent this campaign Daniel Masur in four sets on Monday. The South Korean enjoyed a great run to the Eastbourne International semi-finals as a lucky loser last week and also enjoyed a good tournament at Roland-Garros.
The pair have faced each other in Doubles a few times over the years but this first face-to-face meeting should be a thoroughly entertaining match for whomever stumbles across it on Court 14. On grass form 23-year-old Kwon may just about be the favourite for a tricky result to call but Koepfer’s grit has been exemplary in recent weeks. Taking either player to win at least a set here looks on in what could easily go all the way. On performances at Wimbledon so far, take Koepfer to win at least a set here.
