THE PREDICTION
World number 11 Diego Schwartzman became the latest player to benefit from Benoit Paire’s poor form with an assured straight-sets victory on Tuesday. The Argentine is great on all surfaces but he has struggled at times to cope with the quick transition from his favoured clay to grass in time for a successful Wimbledon campaign, with his third round exit here in 2019 his best showing at SW19. Schwartzman takes on a well-loved British hopeful in world number 143 Liam Broady after the left-hander put in one of his best performances to take out Marco Cecchinato in straight sets.
This first meeting could get interesting considering the level of tennis Broady put in against Cecchinato and if he is afforded a big enough court for a proper crowd to back him the Brit could potentially snatch a set here. The upset would be a small miracle but Schwartzman is nowhere near his excellent best on this surface. For this reason, take the Argentine to win outright but a one-off punt for Broady to win a set would be reasonable.
