World number 35 Daria Kasatkina and 34 Jelena Ostapenko should play out a fascinating rematch on Thursday just a week after they faced-off in the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International. 24-year-old Ostapenko was the victor last week in three sets in a volatile match on her way to winning her fourth WTA title. The Latvian stunned the field at Roland-Garros in 2017 to win as a fresh-faced 20-year-old and it has taken her most of the last four years to find her way back from that huge pressure. Having conceded just three games in her first round match here on Wednesday, Ostapenko could well be a dark horse for the title.
Kasatkina, however, will be gunning for revenge here and the Russian already has two WTA titles this season won on hard courts earlier this year. Kasatkina, also 24, came through a tough first match against Patricia Tig on Wednesday in three sets but she is the 31st seed here for a reason and her performance at Eastbourne last week deserved a win as much as Ostapenko’s. Take this match to see three sets, as both of their previous meetings on grass have done, with Ostapenko the slight favourite as she leads their head-to-head 3-2.
