THE PREDICTION
25-year-old Cristian Garin would probably just sneak into the top 10 players on tour on his favoured clay but the Chilean has yet to really prove himself on grass. The world number 20 needed five sets to take down Spanish qualifier Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Tuesday but both players will have been finding their feet on this surface. World number 154 Marc Polmans also came through the qualifiers and was rewarded with one of the easier draws in 37-year-old Yen Hsun-Lu. Still, the 24-year-old needed four sets to overcome the Chinese Taipei Challenger circuit legend to win his first tour-level match this season.
Garin beat Polmans in four well-contested sets last year at Roland-Garros in their only previous meeting so he will know to expect a push back from the Australian here. However, the quality of their respective first round opponents is quite the gulf and the Chilean should be coming through fairly comfortably as the outright winner of this second meeting. Polmans has enough about him to make straight sets a distinct doubt.
