THE PREDICTION
This match has plenty of hallmarks for a five-set throwdown in what will be the second ever meeting between Andreas Seppi and Denis Kudla. Italian veteran Seppi came back from a set down to beat Joao Sousa early on Monday and the 37-year-old is always competitive at the majors. In fact, Seppi has only played in two three-set matches at Grand Slams since losing in five to Frances Tiafoe at the Australian Open in 2019. Couple that with Denis Kudla’s incredible fight-back from two sets down to beat world number 35 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina yesterday and this match looks like easily breaking the three-hour mark.
28-year-old Kudla is also a tough nut to crack at the Slams but he is perennially underrated on grass and this is not the first time the American has enjoyed a run here. Kudla reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2015 and he backs himself on this surface, as a win over Dan Evans in Nottingham a few weeks ago suggests.
