THE PREDICTION
World number seven Andrey Rublev looks to be playing himself back into form after a slight crisis in confidence over the last few months. The 23-year-old certainly has the game for grass as a player capable of sending back most shots with interest and his four-set victory over Fabio Fognini was impressive in its maturity. Incredibly he faces Marton Fucsovics, again, with the Hungarian likely wondering what he did to the tennis gods to deserve a fifth draw against the powerful Russian. In fact, since last September in the round of 16 of the delayed French Open Fucsovics has lost to Rublev four times in a row and was forced to pull out of their Qatar Open draw meaning that this is their sixth fixture in less than a year. 29-year-old Fucsovics played well in beating the ninth seed Diego Schwartzman on Friday and his first round victory over Jannik Sinner was equally impressive.
Fucsovics drew first blood in their 4-1 head-to-head record when they met back in 2017 and he took the first set at Roland-Garros last season but Rublev took the next three to win there and the following three matches in straight sets. That makes for very grim reading for the world number 48 and yet his character could be his saviour when he takes Rublev on for a fifth attempt at revenge. Whilst there is clearly a gulf in ability in this match-up, Rublev is still not quite up to the level of their last match at the Miami Open and Fucsovics probably has his best shot at beating him here. Take Rublev to win and both players to take a set here as both players have been involved in two four-set matches so far this week.
