THE PREDICTION
World number one Ashleigh Barty can often be a slow burner and this fortnight at Wimbledon has been no different. The 25-year-old has got better and better with every passing round and she looked like the champion elect in breaking Barbora Krejcikova’s 15-match winning streak on Court 1 on Monday in two fabulous sets. Barty has gone three matches without dropping a set and has rarely looked troubled on her way to a first Wimbledon quarter-final in search of her second Grand Slam title.
A first meeting with fellow Aussie Ajla Tomjlanovic looks a winnable fixture at this stage despite the world number 75’s excellent campaign so far. The 28-year-old was in control of her round of 16 match with British hopeful Emma Raducanu before the 18-year-old was forced to retire with breathing difficulties and that experience will have taken most of the shine off reaching her first ever major quarter-final. Tomjlanovic has beaten two excellent grass-court players in Alize Cornet and Jelena Ostapenko so far but ash Barty is likely to be one challenge too great on Centre Court this afternoon. It seems a reasonable risk to suggest that Barty can claim a fourth straight-sets victory in a row here.
