PEDRO MARTINEZ
24-year-old Spaniard Pedro Martinez makes his debut in the Wimbledon main draw and after making some progress in the other Grand Slams, he will be keen to get a win under his belt here. His best form has been reserved to clay courts and the standout performance in his career so far came at the recent Roland Garros where he reached the semi-finals in the Doubles. His game is less suited to grass and he has not been involved in any of the warm-up tournaments on grass neither.
STEFANO TRAVAGLIA
This is the third time that Italian Stefano Travaglia has made the first round of Wimbledon and he will be hoping it is third time lucky as he awaits his first win. Similar to Martinez, he is a clay court specialist but he has more experience on grass than Martinez and he pushed Matteo Berrettini all the way at Queen’s before losing in two tiebreaks.
THE PREDICTION
Pedro Martinez and Stefano Travaglia meet in what is a battle between two clay-court specialists and it will be interesting to see which adapts to the Wimbledon grass best. They have met once before and it was Travaglia who was victorious on clay and it is the Italian who is preferred here. He has the greater experience on grass and he should have enough to overcome the young Spaniard.
