Australian John Millman will hope to put his French Open disappointment behind him after he was forced to withdraw from the event moments before his first-round clash. He was able to compete at Queen’s recently and managed to pick up a much-needed win in the first round to demonstrate that he was over that injury but he failed to progress beyond that with compatriot Alex de Minaur getting the better of him. The 32-year-old has only failed to progress beyond the first round of Wimbledon in just one of his five outings to date so he will believe he can collect at least one win here.
ROBERTO BAUTISTA AGUT
World number 10 Roberto Bautista Agut has had a mixed 2021 season so far having lost two finals at the Montpellier Open and Doha Open. The Spaniard lost to grass-specialist Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals of the Mallorca Championships last week and remains just one place off a career-high ninth in the ATP world rankings. 33-year-old Bautista Agut reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2019, taking the first set off eventual champion Novak Djokovic. RBA has nine ATP titles to his name but also won the 2019 Davis Cup and 2020 ATP Cup as part of Team Spain.
THE PREDICTION
This is an intriguing first round clash between John Millman and Roberto Bautista Agut and could well be a candidate for a five-set thriller on Monday. The Aussie has been impressive in places this season whilst Bautista Agut’s overall performance in 2021 has been below his very high standards. 32-year-old Millman can play for hours and his positivity on court could earn him a career highlight win at SW19 if RBA does not bring his best. Bautista Agut has never lost to Millman in five matches but the pair have shared sets at Grand Slams on two occasions before now and in each of their last four meetings. Take Millman to win at least a set in this tussle and perhaps even at least two but leave this one out of an accumulator.
