HUBERT HURKACZ
A 15-11 win/loss record for Hubert Hurkacz is a little misleading for the Pole’s successes this season as he won his first Masters title at the Miami Open. Since then, though, the 24-year-old has lost his last six matches on tour as he struggles with form and fitness. The world number 17 also won his first tournament of the year at the Delray Beach Open to make it three ATP title in total. Hurkacz has lost in the first round of his last three Grand Slams but he impressed in a third round defeat to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2019.
LORENZO MUSETTI
19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti comes into his maiden appearance at Wimbledon on the back of an eye-catching display at Roland-Garros in which he pushed Novak Djokovic all the way before being forced to retire in the fifth and deciding set. The Italian won the opening two sets and looked to be well on his way to a huge upset but could not hold on, although that performance capped an impressive year so far for the youngster who is now at a career-high of number 58 in the world. It remains to be seen how he will perform on the grass but with a 16-9 record across all surfaces this year, he will hope to continue his good form into another Grand Slam.
THE PREDICTION
It is truly difficult to say how Hubert Hurkacz will fare at Wimbledon this season. The Pole has an excellent game for the grass but there is definitely a crisis of confidence manifesting in him this season following his first Masters title. The opposite can be said of 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti, whose confidence could sometime need reigning in. However, the Italian was two sets up against Novak Djokovic in his last outing at Roland-Garros and he was in control of a match against Hurkacz at the Italian Open from which the Pole eventually retired. Musetti will have grand designs on reaching at least the round of 16 once again after Paris and he looks good to win at least two sets here in what could be a thriller.
