FACUNDO BAGNIS
Argentine left-hander Facundo Bagnis is predominantly a clay-court specialist and that was evident in his decision to play another clay event rather than play any of the grass tournaments in the build-up to Wimbledon. This is the fourth time he has played in the first round at SW19 and he has yet to get a win under his belt. This represents a fair chance for him to do so but his lack of time on grass is a concerning.
MIOMIR KECMANOVIC
21-year-old Miomir Kecmanovic has limited experience on the grass but he is 6-4 on the surface in his ATP Tour career. He will be making his second appearance at Wimbledon after his first ended prematurely as injury forced him to retire in his second-round match with Benoit Paire in 2019. The Serbian has so far been unable to add to his maiden title that he earned last year but he has it in him to overcome some inconsistent form of late and make a noteworthy outing at SW19.
THE PREDICTION
Facundo Bagnis and Miomir Kecmanovic meet in the first round of Wimbledon and it is the latter who is heavily favoured to win here. Bagnis’ has very little experience or pedigree on grass and it is particularly telling that he opted against playing in any of the warm-up tournaments on grass too. Kecmanovic has to be preferred here and it could very well be an overwhelming victory for the talented young Serbian.
