ELINA SVITOLINA
World number five Elina Svitolina got off to a good start at the Eastbourne International by beating Paula Badosa in three but she lost to Elena Rybakina in the round of 16. The Ukrainian number one has 15 WTA titles to her name as a top 10 ever-present but her last came at the Strasbourg Open last year. 26-year-old Svitolina is an extremely consistent all-court player who has reached the semi-finals of both Wimbledon and the US Open, both in 2019.
ALISON VAN UYTVANCK
World number 57 Alison Van Uytvanck has enjoyed success on the grass this June with a close quarter-final defeat to Jo Konta at the Nottingham Open followed by a win on the ITF circuit. The Belgian favours grass courts but has yet to win on the surface with four WTA titles overall. 27-year-old Van Uytvanck reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros in 2015 and the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 2018 for her best results in the majors so far.
THE PREDICTION
World number five Elina Svitolina has a huge opportunity this Wimbledon campaign to go further than ever before with so many seeds out of the draw. The 26-year-old has all the talent at her disposal but can often fall to lapses in concentration that might make a fortnight too much of a task at the Slams. In many ways hard-working Van Uytvanck is the polar opposite and the Belgian will be a serious opening test here with strong grass form coming in. Svitolina was the winner in their only previous meeting as she came back from a set down in the second round of Indian Wells back in 2015. Third seed Svitolina should be winning this in straight sets but it is safest to opt for the Ukrainian to win outright in what looks a tough test.
