ANDREY RUBLEV
World number seven Andrey Rublev lost in the Halle Open final to Ugo Humbert last time out in his first tournament on grass since 2019. The Russian has the second-most wins on tour this season with a 33-10 record and he should be targeting at least the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. Rublev has reached the last eight of the US Open, Australian Open and Roland-Garros but has never made it to the third round here. The 23-year-old won the Rotterdam Open on his favoured hard surface earlier this year to make it eight career titles.
FEDERICO DELBONIS
On the back of a good showing at Roland-Garros, Federico Delbonis will be eager to back it up at Wimbledon. The Argentinian saw off three opponents in that event as he maintained his recent good run of form with him consistently picking up wins, although it is yet to result in a title. He is only 15 places below his career-high world ranking of 33 and a good showing here could result in him getting around that number once again, although he will need to earn a maiden win at this event having gone 0-5 in his career so far.
THE PREDICTION
There is certainly a spot of intrigue in this first career meeting between world number seven Andrey Rublev and number 48 Federico Delbonis. Considering the Russian has the second-most wins on tour this season he has struggled to impose himself at key moments this season and Delbonis is in form. However, the Argentine’s game on his favoured clay has yet to transfer over well to grass and he has never won a match at Wimbledon. Rublev reached the Halle Open final after a fairly disappointing clay season so the form tables may have changed between these two. Take Rublev to win outright here with Delbonis a potential banana skin, though the Russian should be winning in 3.
