ALEXANDER ZVEREV
World number six Alexander Zverev was dumped out of the second round of the Halle Open by eventual champion Ugo Humbert last time out. The German has won two ATP titles this season at the Mexican Open and the Madrid Open, the latter of which is his fourth Masters. 24-year-old Zverev reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open last year but lost from two sets up to Dominic Thiem. Zverev has 15 titles overall but has never won a trophy on grass and his best showing at Wimbledon was a round of 16 exit to Milos Raonic back in 2017.
TALLON GRIEKSPOOR
24-year-old Tallon Griekspoor came through some stiff competition in the Wimbledon qualifiers to make just the second main draw of a Grand Slam in his career. The Dutchman is making his Wimbledon debut and is just a few places off his career-high ATP world ranking of 120th
earned earlier this month. Griekspoor has won two Challenger titles this season but this will be the biggest match of his life to date against Alexander Zverev. He lost his only other Grand Slam match to Taylor Fritz at the 2020 Australian Open.
THE PREDICTION
World number six Alexander Zverev is renowned for slow starts at Grand Slams and the German number one almost lost to Oscar Otte in the first round of Roland-Garros. The 24-year-old’s run to the Madrid Masters title, his second title there, was nothing short of outstanding and overall he is enjoying an excellent season. However, there will always be potential for an upset when Zverev plays and Tallon Griekspoor is certainly talented enough to cause one here. For that reason, take the German to win outright against Griekspoor with this match capable of seeing four or five sets. It could be an interesting one-off option to take the Dutchman to win at least a set here on his debut.
