THE PREDICTION
World number one Ash Barty conceded just two games in a thrashing of Victoria Azarenka in the round of 16. The Aussie looks in excellent shape ahead of the US Open in less than two weeks’ time and it will take a player at the very top of their game to oust her at the Cincinnati Open in this form. One of the few that could do it is world number 10 Barbora Krejcikova, who took out the eight seed Garbine Muguruza in a great three-set contest on Thursday to reach her fourth quarter-final in five tournaments. The 25-year-old went on to win all three of those tournaments in which she reached this stage, making this look an absolute must-watch match on Friday.
Barty is one of only a handful of players who have managed to beat Barbora Krejcikova this summer, with the Czech by far the most in-form player since the clay season began. Barty beat Krejcikova in the round of 16 at Wimbledon last month on her way to her second Grand Slam title but this could be a little closer than that straight-sets result. With Barty still the likelier winner it is probably best to take her as outright but both players to take a set looks a suitable alternative.
