This first meeting between world number seven Andrey Rublev and number 50 Benoit Paire could be a fiery one with both players performing very well so far at the Cincinnati Open. 32-year-old Paire’s return to form is especially impressive after arriving here with an 8-22 record for the season so far, The Frenchman overcame in-form John Isner over three sets on Thursday to win in three for the third-successive time. Beating Isner alongside sixth seed Denis Shapovalov and Miomir Kecmanovic is vastly encouraging stuff from the former world number 18 but he will face his toughest foe yet in Rublev, who is the fourth seed here with designs on a second ATP 1000 final this year. 23-year-old Rublev put out another Frenchman returning to form in Gael Monfils in the round of 16 and he will play his part in what looks a thrilling contest here on Friday.
