World number one Ashleigh Barty was in a game with Danish teenage prodigy Clara Tauson towards the end in the second round but she still came through in straight sets. The 25-year-old has won five WTA titles this season, including Wimbledon and two Masters titles in Miami and Cincinnati. She carries a 14-match winning streak into the third round. 28-year-old Shelby Rogers reached the quarter-finals here last season before defeat to eventual champion Naomi Osaka. The world number 43 is also yet to drop a set with two strong wins over Madison Brengle and Sorana Cirstea.
THE PREDICTION
Barty has beaten Shelby Rogers in all five of their previous encounters with the first coming in 2017 and then, remarkably, the next four coming this year. In a fifth meeting with Barty since the Yarra Valley Classic at the start of the season, Rogers has lost twice in straight sets at the Australian Open and Madrid Open and twice in three sets. Barty’s level has improved even since that last meeting in Madrid, so take the Aussie to win in two again here.
