World number 98 Andreas Seppi has flown under the radar at the US Open for two rounds but his defeat of the 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday from a set down was something special. After beating Martin Fucsovics in the first round via five gruelling sets the 37-year-old would have been forgiven for tailing off but he now faces a huge opportunity to reach the round of 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time since the Australian Open in 2018. 28-year-old Oscar Otte has already beaten his best Grand Slam finish by reaching the third round here via a straight-sets victory over Denis Kudla. The German has played incredibly well at Grand Slams this year, taking both Alexander Zverev and Andy Murray to five sets before defeat at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, respectively, before beating 20th seed Lorenzo Sonego in the first round here.
THE PREDICTION
This is a monumental opportunity for world number 144 Oscar Otte to reach the round of 16 at a Grand Slam after two incredible performances. The 28-year-old was emphatic against Andy Murray at Wimbledon in July and showed all the hallmarks of man beginning to believe in his abilities, something that has come to fruition at the US Open. 37-year-old Andreas Seppi reached a career-high 18th in the ATP world rankings back in 2013 and the veteran has been here and done this before. However, two wins over top players in Fucsovics and Hurkacz cannot be ignored as some of his best performances for some time. The heart says Otte can continue his dream journey on the biggest match of his career here but a tireless Seppi should be able to take this to at least four sets. Take Otte to win outright but leave this close one out of an accumulator.
