The 24-year-old is enjoying his best season on tour so far with a first ATP 500 final reached at the Dubai Open and a career win over Rafael Nadal at the Washington Open last month. 25-year-old Ernesto Escobedo reached the second round in a more straightforward three-set dismissal of Pablo Cuevas, conceding just four games to the Uruguayan. The world number 178 has justified his wildcard with that performance to reach the second round at the US Open for the third time.
THE PREDICTION
It remains to be seen how far Lloyd Harris can go in his career but the South Africa’s positivity in a match is something to behold. The 24-year-old is rarely beaten easily and suits the longer format of a major tournament well, with this first meeting against Ernesto Escobedo likely to go his way in three or four. 25-year-old Escobedo has never made it past this stage of a Grand Slam but he is a popular player with home crowds and this should be a good, honest match-up.
