The 33-year-old beat Lucas Pouille in a five-set slog on Tuesday, taking the first two sets before fighting back well in the decider.
THE PREDICTION
Fourth seed Alexander Zverev is one of two stand-out men at the US Open capable of ruining world number one Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of a second calendar slam. The German has been in irresistible form over the last few weeks, with his run to the Gold Medal in Tokyo clearly a big personal, emotional milestone. Albert Ramos-Vinolas would have a bigger say in this first meeting with Zverev on clay but the conditions totally suit Zverev here and he should be winning this in straight sets.
