PETER GOJOWCZYK

32-year-old Peter Gojowczyk beat the second seed in qualifying Francisco Cerundolo to reach the main draw of the US Open for a fifth time in his career. The German reached a career-high 39^th in the ATP world rankings back in 2018 in what looks to be his best year on tour for results, although he won his only ATP title at the Metz Open the year before.

UGO HUMBERT

23-year-old Ugo Humbert is a wonderfully different sort of player on the ATP tour and someone with a solid chance at winning a Grand Slam in his lifetime. The left-hander won his first ATP 500 event earlier this year at the Halle Open on grass, which will probably end up his best surface. However, the Frenchman is also very effective on hard courts and, providing his does not draw his Grand Slam kryptonite Nick Kyrgios, Humbert should be able to reach the second week in Flushing Meadows at least.

THE PREDICTION

It would take a kind few opening rounds for the Ugo Humbert to get in his groove but if the Frenchman can reach the second week of the US Open he will be a thorn in the side of anybody there. A kind opening draw against Peter Gojowczyk may look like a straight-sets affair but Humbert can sometimes be guilty of slow starts and poor transitions from tournament to tournament.
