EMMA RADUCANU
18-year-old Emme Raducanu will be the subject of intense media and fan focus at the US Open after reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon last month on her Grand Slam debut as a wildcard. This time around the teenager has qualified well via three impressive straight-set matches and she finished runner-up to Clara Tauson at a Challenger last week.
JENNIFER BRADY
26-year-old Jennifer Brady has struggled with injuries at times this season but she reached a career-high 13th in the WTA world rankings back in February following a run to the Australian Open final. The American lost to Naomi Osaka in Melbourne less than five months after the Japanese star also beat her in the semi-finals of the US Open last season.
THE PREDICTION
It is hard not to get carried away with this match with Emma Raducanu’s stunning Wimbledon debut still fresh in the memory and Jennifer Brady’s recent withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open through injury. The 13th seed has played just two matches since an injury in the third round of the French Open back in June but a win over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round at Cincinnati and a lead against Jelena Ostapenko before having to retire suggests her level is still very high. Raducanu beat former Roland-Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova at Wimbledon last month, who then went on to win Silver at the Tokyo Olympic Games, to show the heights she can reach too. Realistically, though, Brady finished runner-up at the Australian Open earlier this year and she should avoid a banana skin here to get a promising US Open campaign underway. Raducanu is well capable of forcing a decider, though.
