DOMINIK KOEPFER
Since turning pro in 2016, Dominik Koepfer has enjoyed a relatively impressive run in Grand Slam tournaments. The German 27 year-old has made it through the first round of all three majors already this year with third round appearances in the French Open and Wimbledon as well. His career best was a fourth round appearances at the US Open in 2019 so he will be confident of being able to push past the first round this time. His career best ranking of 50 in May 2021 means Koepfer shouldn’t be far off breaking the top 50 ranking.
QUENTIN HALYS
Quentin Hayls has qualified for this event via the qualification tournament in which he enjoyed three straight set victories against Samir Banerjee, Kacper Zuk and Ernests Gulbis. Halys hasn’t competed at a major since 2016 when he made the second round of the Australian Open and the French Open. This is his first ever appearance at the US Open.
THE PREDICTION
Dominik Koepfer is an impressive young player and it won’t be long before he is a genuine contender at the pointy edge of a Grand Slam tournament. Whilst Halys was in good form in qualifying, it is unlikely that he will make this first round match a competitive one and Koepfer comes into this as the fairly comfortable favourite.
